2/17/2023 0 Comments Legend of zelda potion shop![]() ![]() If a player uses the red potion when the player has half a heart left (the lowest number of hearts the player can have before dying), then the effect of the potion is to nearly double (quadruple if you count the blue potion) the player's health, thereby nearly doubling (or quadrupling) the player's time in-game. This rate of heart reduction likely decreases as a player's skill improves. Assuming, for the sake of argument, that a player receives damage at some constant rate, and that the rate of heart declination is greater than the rate of heart replenishment, players will eventually die in the game. The value of the red potion changes based on one's tolerance for having to restart the game when you die. I think I may have the beginnings of an answer here. Am I right? Assuming typical game play, typical loss of hearts over time and possibly assuming you don't buy red potions from the old lady, under what situations could it possibly be a good idea to choose the red potion over the heart container? Almost thirty years later I still think that is one of the worst decisions ever made. I had a friend who occasionally chose the red potion. When I was a kid playing Legend of Zelda I always chose the heart container over the red potion. Tl dr: I think the old lady who sold red potions was added late in the game and inadvertently broke the game mechanics of Zelda. ![]()
